Wings of Time: The History of Iași International Airport

Starting its journey in 1905, Iași International Airport has witnessed many transformations, becoming one of the air gates that connect Romania with the rest of the world. In 1926, with the inauguration of flights from Bucharest - Galați - Iași and Chișinău, Iași Aerodrome gained commercial airport status, paving the way for future modernization and expansion.

The year 1969 brought a significant modernization with the construction of an 1,800 m concrete runway and a new passenger terminal.

This was followed by another update in 2001, when the passenger processing capacity was increased, and in 2005, the airport was equipped with a CAT II instrument landing system.

Later, in 2012, to accommodate the growing number of passengers, Terminal T2 was inaugurated, primarily for domestic flights.

A significant step in the airport's development was initiated in 2005 by the Iași County Council, which planned the construction of a new passenger and cargo terminal, as well as a separate runway, although the implementation faced delays.

In 2013, construction of a new 2,400 m runway began, including the expansion of the platform and taxiway, which were completed in 2015 along with the opening of Terminal T3.
